Marco Marco: Celebration of High Fashion and Unique Beauty

Men in heels, neon fabric in futuristic cuts, androgynous beauties, and an ecstatic crowd was all to be had at last night’s Marco Marco fashion show at the Vibiana Cathedral in downtown Los Angeles. In attendance at the fashion show were such stars as Adam Lambert, Carmen Electra, Jai Rodriguez, Chris Salvatore, Tahj Mowry, Lily Ghalichi and GG Gharachedaghi, Samuel Larsen, and Vivian Lamolli. 

Marco Morante, the openly gay fashion designer of Marco Marco, presented his Spring/Summer 2015 Collection Three Line with an array of models—women, men, transgender, like Yasmine Petty, and even guest models from RuPaul’s Drag Race, such as Mathu Anderson, Willam Belli, Detox Icunt, and Sharon Needles. Marco has dressed celebrities such as Brittney Spears, Fergie, Iggy Azalea, and Katy Perry.

There were a few things that made this event special. The new line for Marco Marco spoke volumes about and for the LGBT community and high fashion. Take for instance the models— not only was Marco’s line presented by androgynous males and females but the special guest models of the nights hailed from RuPaul’s Drag Race. This celebration of gender bending, an active rebellion against gender roles, is something that Marco presented at his Collection 2 show last year and is pushing forward in the fashion industry. Marco’s choice in LGBT models represents to society that there’s a beauty to be found in different body types, sizes, and fashion. 

When Jai Rodriguez of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy was asked what having more transgender and drag models in high fashion shows meant for our society, he replied:

I don’t know very many models who can walk the runway and give the same essence of a pop sensation like many of these girls from Drag Race. I think that we are moving forward. Betsy Johnson just had Willam walk in her show. So we are making good strides. It’s kind of been happening under the radar with a lot of trans girls. We are embracing it all. I love that Marco Marco is blazing it and just doing it.

Similarly, Chris Salvatore, actor and gay rights activist had this to say when asked why he thought it was so important for people to support Marco Marco and other LGBT proponents in the entertainment industry:

I feel like there’s are a lot of kids nowadays that are looking for a role model and they just want someone to look up to. [Marco] proves that you can be out and still be successful, and that you can follow your dreams. These young kids need role models. There aren’t a lot of them out there.

I was impressed with last night’s show because not only was it in an incredible venue but the crowd was so positive and supportive of the men and women on the catwalk. They celebrated what it meant to be unique and beautiful in one’s own skin, a trait that society would benefit from.

Perhaps one of the most memorable moments of the Marco Marco fashion show was when Adam Lambert, gay singer and songwriter, was asked what he thought about the Supreme Court’s decisive role on October 6^th and that now 30 states in the United States allow same-sex marriage.

He said: “Fuck yeah.”

I think we can all agree with Adam Lambert. F— yeah.

Adam Lambert Goes Acoustic At VIP Concert For AT&T Live Proud

It was a cold and rainy night on West 16th Street for AT&T’s Live Proud Finale gala with Adam Lambert, but the weather did not stop an eager crowd of diehard glamberts from shining.

The evening served as the finale to AT&T’s Live Proud campaign, a celebration of LGBT History Month. Hosted by the Highline Ballroom, the event was a glittery gala from start to finish.

Attendees mingled and swilled cocktails, loaded up on sugary goodies from a decadent candy bar, and took pictures in AT&T’s photo both. The campaign encouraged the partygoers, and the LGBT community as a whole, to make memes that represent how they “Live Proud” and share their memes across social media channels.

After guests finished tweeting, snapping and snacking (on killer hors d'oeuvres like BLT sliders and mini quesadillas), they gathered for a VIP acoustic performance by the glamazon himself.

With just a guitar and a standing microphone, Adam—fresh off his tour with Queen—began his set with “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.” He then brought it down a level with “Outlaws of Love,” only to get his cheering glamberts revved back up with a rockin’ rendition of “Trespassing.” He ended with his 2009 hit single “Whataya Want From Me.”

Lambert just signed on last month for a third album, which remains unnamed and rather secret. “I’m not going to say too much about it,” he told Next on the pre-show carpet, “but it’s gonna be something fresh.”

This was Lambert’s second year with the campaign. Since his appearance on American Idol, he has continued to be an advocate and pop icon for the LGBT community. “The queer community has become more mainstream since Idol,” he told us. “I’ve had a fun ride and I’m just going to try to always respond appropriately and keep it real.”

Idag är det International Coming Out Day och det är bra. För att komma ut är
en svår process som vi på MTV vill vara med och uppärksamma.

Stjärnor som Neil Patrick Harris, Ellen Page och Frank Ocean är några bland
flera som har varit modiga nog att offentligt erkänna sin sexuella identitet.
Även idag, fruktar många både kändisar & privat personer att det kan vara
skadligt för deras liv eller karriär att komma ut. Just därför är det så
viktigt att våga ta steget och visa att man vågar vara den man är.

Och kom ihåg, allihopa: Det tog Ellen Degeneres, Tom Daley och co bra länge
innan de vågade stå för sin sexualitet. Ta dig tid till dina behov, men var
inte rädd, för i slutändan så blir allt bättre.

Today is the International Coming Out Day and that is good. Because coming out is a difficult process that we here at MTV want to help raise awareness about.

Stars like Neil Patrick Harris, Ellen Page and Frank Ocean are a few among many who have been brave enough to publicly acknowledge their sexual identity. Even today many, both celebrities and individuals, fear that coming out may be detrimental to their life or career. And that is why it is so important to dare take the plunge and show that you dare to be who you are.

And remember, all of you: It took Ellen Degeneres, Tom Daley and co a long time before they dared to be open about their sexuality. Take the time that you need, but don’t be afraid, cause in the end everything will be better.
