Queen has been out touring this year with Adam Lambert and folks have been really happy to get a chance to see the band in arenas again here in the U.S. What was it like for you, going back out on an extended tour?

It was about four months, because we went to Asia and Australia as well. I have to say, it was just great. You know, we got on so well with Adam. He fitted in so well with us and he brought so much to the show. [He’s a] great frontman and he looked great and he sings beautifully, and his style is very suited to our music. You know, it’s pretty theatrical music, some of our stuff. He’s the greatest. So, we really had a ball and I think it came over in the shows. They were very well attended and the reception that we got in every city was great. So, it was a really great experience and I’m thrilled. We’re going to go on and do Europe in January and February. It’s all good.

After the European run that you mentioned, what sort of thoughts have you all had? Do you want to record with Adam?

I think it would be great to do something, yeah. Not an album, probably. He’s got his own stuff to do, and that’s very much a priority for him. I think it would be very interesting, because his voice is so extraordinary and I think we could really do something great with it. I see no end to the possibility and the potential of Adam Lambert. He’s a fabulous performer, and I think it would be very interesting to do something with him.

#1 Billboard album chartist, Grammy nominee, songwriter, actor and LGBT role-model & activist Adam Lambert gave an intimate acoustic performance at the Highland Ballroom on October 13, 2014 in support of AT&T’s second annual “Live Proud” campaign. The "Live Proud" initiative encourages members of the LGBT community and their allies to express awareness, empowerment, and most importantly, to celebrate their PRIDE.

This is the second year that Adam has partnered with AT&T for “Live Proud” and he reveals why he has continued with this collaborative relationship below:

“Today, too many LGBT individuals don’t feel they have a voice, and this program gives them one.”

“For me, I choose to “Live Proud” through my fans and my music. By creating personal and empowering music that my fans can relate to, I aim to inspire and motivate them every day.”

"I'm excited to be a part of this great movement that showcases AT&T's commitment to enriching and strengthening the lives of LGBT individuals everywhere. No matter what you believe in or what you identify as, this campaign gives you the opportunity to be loud and proud about who you are.”

Adam recently concluded an extensive tour as front man for rock band icons Queen, covering North America, South Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. He is currently completing work on his eagerly anticipated third album as a follow up to his #1 Billboard debut album “Trespassing”. In early 2015, Adam will once again hit the tour trail with Queen, this time in the United Kingdom and Europe.

Marco Marco: Celebration of High Fashion and Unique Beauty

By Alexandra Temblador

Men in heels, neon fabric in futuristic cuts, androgynous beauties, and an ecstatic crowd was all to be had at last night’s Marco Marco fashion show at the Vibiana Cathedral in downtown Los Angeles. In attendance at the fashion show were such stars as Adam Lambert, Carmen Electra, Jai Rodriguez, Chris Salvatore, Tahj Mowry, Lily Ghalichi and GG Gharachedaghi, Samuel Larsen, and Vivian Lamolli.

Marco Morante, the openly gay fashion designer of Marco Marco, presented his Spring/Summer 2015 Collection Three Line with an array of models—women, men, transgender, like Yasmine Petty, and even guest models from RuPaul’s Drag Race, such as Mathu Anderson, Willam Belli, Detox Icunt, and Sharon Needles. Marco has dressed celebrities such as Brittney Spears, Fergie, Iggy Azalea, and Katy Perry.

There were a few things that made this event special. The new line for Marco Marco spoke volumes about and for the LGBT community and high fashion. Take for instance the models— not only was Marco’s line presented by androgynous males and females but the special guest models of the nights hailed from RuPaul’s Drag Race. This celebration of gender bending, an active rebellion against gender roles, is something that Marco presented at his Collection 2 show last year and is pushing forward in the fashion industry. Marco’s choice in LGBT models represents to society that there’s a beauty to be found in different body types, sizes, and fashion.

When Jai Rodriguez of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy was asked what having more transgender and drag models in high fashion shows meant for our society, he replied:
I don’t know very many models who can walk the runway and give the same essence of a pop sensation like many of these girls from Drag Race. I think that we are moving forward. Betsy Johnson just had Willam walk in her show. So we are making good strides. It’s kind of been happening under the radar with a lot of trans girls. We are embracing it all. I love that Marco Marco is blazing it and just doing it.

Similarly, Chris Salvatore, actor and gay rights activist had this to say when asked why he thought it was so important for people to support Marco Marco and other LGBT proponents in the entertainment industry:
I feel like there’s are a lot of kids nowadays that are looking for a role model and they just want someone to look up to. [Marco] proves that you can be out and still be successful, and that you can follow your dreams. These young kids need role models. There aren’t a lot of them out there.
I was impressed with last night’s show because not only was it in an incredible venue but the crowd was so positive and supportive of the men and women on the catwalk. They celebrated what it meant to be unique and beautiful in one’s own skin, a trait that society would benefit from.

Perhaps one of the most memorable moments of the Marco Marco fashion show was when Adam Lambert, gay singer and songwriter, was asked what he thought about the Supreme Court’s decisive role on October 6th and that now 30 states in the United States allow same-sex marriage.
He said: “Fuck yeah.”

I think we can all agree with Adam Lambert. F— yeah.

The AT&T Live Proud Campaign's Finale in NY Included Adam Lambert!
Submitted by Bella Rosa on Tue, 10/14/2014 - 21:44

Adam Lambert is not only a powerhouse singer with vocals that chill and delight, he is also a very generous gay man who helps support the LGBT community in any way he can. Last night, in the finale of the "Live Proud" campaign, he joined to help inspire, share pride and contribute. He signed an acoustic guitar that has 50 other notable music industry names on it that will be auctioned off October 23. The proceeds are going to help a family very much in need of rebuilding their lives.

This is the second year for the Live Proud Campaign that tries to raise awareness for LGBT youth, by encouraging participants to share proud moments of their careers and lives. Adam Lambert is a perfect example and role model for today's young people and has a lot to be proud of.

He spoke to the crowd briefly before performing songs that seem to be hand picked by him for just the right fit for this campaign, and stressed that love and sexuality are what drives people. "We all just want love, don’t we? It’s all about love. Or finding other things in the meantime when you’re trying to find love, that’s cool too. Love is a tough game" were words of understanding from the talented singer who has been busy touring this past year with the Iconic band Queen.

The "Queen + Adam Lambert" tour took in North American and Asia this year, and has sold out dates already for their next leg in 2015 touring Europe. Adam Lambert is also finishing up his third solo album, has changed labels and is keeping his throngs of fans, the Glamberts, on pins and needles waiting for word of his album release.

His song set included: Queen's Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Whataya Want From Me, Outlaws of Love (this author's personal favorite of the set) and a mash-up of Trespassing and Another One Bites the Dust.

Adam Lambert Goes Acoustic At VIP Concert For AT&T Live Proud

“I’ve had a fun ride and I’m just going to try to always respond appropriately and keep it real.”

October 14, 2014
By: Cameron Keady

It was a cold and rainy night on West 16th Street for AT&T’s Live Proud Finale gala with Adam Lambert, but the weather did not stop an eager crowd of diehard glamberts from shining.

The evening served as the finale to AT&T’s Live Proud campaign, a celebration of LGBT History Month. Hosted by the Highline Ballroom, the event was a glittery gala from start to finish.

Attendees mingled and swilled cocktails, loaded up on sugary goodies from a decadent candy bar, and took pictures in AT&T’s photo both. The campaign encouraged the partygoers, and the LGBT community as a whole, to make memes that represent how they “Live Proud” and share their memes across social media channels.

After guests finished tweeting, snapping and snacking (on killer hors d'oeuvres like BLT sliders and mini quesadillas), they gathered for a VIP acoustic performance by the glamazon himself.

With just a guitar and a standing microphone, Adam—fresh off his tour with Queen—began his set with “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.” He then brought it down a level with “Outlaws of Love,” only to get his cheering glamberts revved back up with a rockin’ rendition of “Trespassing.” He ended with his 2009 hit single “Whataya Want From Me.”

Lambert just signed on last month for a third album, which remains unnamed and rather secret. “I’m not going to say too much about it,” he told Next on the pre-show carpet, “but it’s gonna be something fresh.”

This was Lambert’s second year with the campaign. Since his appearance on American Idol, he has continued to be an advocate and pop icon for the LGBT community. “The queer community has become more mainstream since Idol,” he told us. “I’ve had a fun ride and I’m just going to try to always respond appropriately and keep it real.”

It’s National Coming Out Day in the USA!

Celebrities can often seem like other-world entities, so detached from the real world that we can forget that they’re just like us.

However, celebrities are just like us. After all, they are human, despite what we might read in the tabloids. They face the same daily dilemmas many of us have to cope with—including the big ones like coming out. October 11th is National Coming Out Day in the USA. To celebrate we’ve picked our fave 5 big-name celebs that have come out to the world:

Adam Lambert

Former American Idol contestant Adam Lambert confirmed that he was gay on an American news show following leaked pictures of the singer allegedly kissing his then-boyfriend. Since then, the star has gone on to become an LGBT advocate and social activist. Watch his coming out video here.

11 Oktober: Coming Out Day

October 2014 Issue

Designer Insights
Queen + Adam Lambert LD Rob Sinclair

Written by Steve Jennings (Photos and Text)
Thursday, 09 October 2014 14:39

Designer Rob Sinclair has just completed a tour leg for Queen + Adam Lambert that finished in New Zealand Sept. 3. We caught the show while the band was touring the U.S. and spoke with Sinclair about the tour he directed as well. Among some of Sinclair’s credits — Miley Cyrus, Peter Gabriel, Pet Shop Boys and Keane (all covered in past PLSN issues). He’s also designed for Adele, Vampire Weekend, Goldfrapp and many more. Here’s what Sinclair had to say about the Queen + Adam Lambert tour.

Rob Sinclair, Lighting Designer/Director:

“I first got involved with Queen when Juliette Slater, the tour director, asked me to become involved with The Queen Extravaganza Tour, which is the official tribute show, produced by Roger Taylor and Brian May. We had a great time working on that show, and I was then asked to light the previous Queen + Adam Lambert shows in 2012. It’s always great to have repeat business, and I was delighted to be asked back this year.

“Working with Queen is very daunting because of their long and impressive legacy of amazing, cutting edge shows stretching back to the 1970’s. Both Brian and Roger know a lot about the mechanics of production, and it’s always great to work with clients who like to be involved at all stages of the process. This is one tour I stayed on as lighting director when the band asked very nicely, the dates worked out and it’s one of those lovely tours where the whole team is a pleasure to be with. Plus, I get to run lights for ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ every night. What’s not to love?

“I’m running the show using the Jands Vista console, which I’ve used for so long that it’s almost an extension of my brain. I like that I don’t have to do lots of math, don’t have to remember lots of numbers, and that it’s really quick and simple to make things happen. Plus, ‘copy-paste’ between fixture types is worth the price of admission alone.

“Brian May, Roger Taylor and Adam Lambert had a tremendous amount of input at all stages in the show. Brian and Roger wanted the iconic Q stage that’s been brought to life so well by Ric Lipson and Ray Winkler at Stufish, and even sketched it in one of our early meetings in a way that’s still very recognizable. Brian, Roger and their longtime manager Jim Beach have been putting shows together since I was at infant school and have a tremendously broad knowledge of all aspects of production. I’ve learnt so much working with them.

“Production Manager Joe Sanchez and his team are old friends from past Pet Shop Boys tours, and it’s been great to see them again. They have a very well-honed and efficient way of working that I really enjoy. Seth Conlin is the lighting crew chief. It’s my first time working with him, and it’s been a pleasure since the first email. His attention to detail and good humor under all circumstances is remarkable and much appreciated.

“Lighting is supplied by Upstaging Inc. I’ve been working with John Bahnick since my first U.S. tour 15 years ago. He’s looked after us really well and I very much appreciate all of the Upstaging attention to detail. I knew we needed a lot of lights for the huge Queen look, and I also knew that our budget, although generous, wasn’t extremely huge, so I chose fixtures that I liked and that I knew Upstaging had in stock. Asking for new toys isn’t the best way to stretch a budget. It’s not too surprising — the [Martin] MAC Vipers and [Vari-Lite] VL3500’s are the workhorses of the rig. The [Ayrton] MagicPanels (and the custom software Ayrton made us to cut the corner LEDS out and make the beam look oval to match the set) light the Q really well, and the Clay Paky Sharpys cut through everything and are the cherries on the cake.

“On the laser side is ER Productions, and my longtime friend and collaborator Marc Weber together with Ross Marshall who ran the show on tour. We have some of the first of their new RGB Beam/Burst boxes, which are wonderful, as well as six more conventional Tripan scanning lasers. As always, the ER guys really shine at detailed and sensitive programming, and I couldn’t be happier with the laser programmed songs. VER Productions and Cherie Sturm have done a great job with the screens and video control. The band’s reaction to the quality of the screen when they first saw it was one of amazement at the clarity. We had to spend a lot of time cleaning up old standard definition footage, as the screen would show up any flaw.

“It’s the first time I’ve worked with Steve Price, the video director, and it’s been a joy. His cut is engaging whilst always staying informative, and we always see exactly what we need to. My old friend Nev Bull works alongside Steve to do some great Catalyst camera effects and to deal with all the content playback. It’s a high-pressure job — Freddie Mercury can never be out of time in his appearances on screen — and Nev does it brilliantly.

“It’s been one of those fun tours where everyone knows what they’re doing, there are no weak links and I’m incredibly happy with, and proud of, the result we’ve achieved together.”
